The very successful Mini first debuted in 1959 and arrived in a single body. New Mini Paceman arrives as the seventh iteration. The 215-horsepower model, despite the peculiarity of its configuration and being just too weighty, turns out to be a favorite in the current Mini lineup. The two-door version rests on a very narrow niche and is set to explore the unexplored markets.
The revolutionary and affordable family car is practical and arrives in revolutionary packaging. Today it is no surprise to see the name synonymous with big success. However, many feel that the latest iteration of Mini is just too weighty to wear the badge properly.
Take a look at a comprehensive new Mini Paceman review.
Exterior and interiors
At just about over 162 inches, the New Mini Paceman is longer although the track widths and wheelbase are identical to the Countryman. It carries the most masculine design of the group. The black mesh grille and the flat-nose add more to the aggressive looks in the model. The design at the rear becomes more unique with sculpted rear shoulders and a sloping roofline. You will also see the first use of horizontal taillights. Overall, you will find the MINI looking wider, rather than taller. It is 4 inches wider and 4 inches taller than the standard hard-top, thus making up for more rear seat room. The interiors are as classy and the window switches have migrated to the center console that seems more cluttered and hard to read. Interior styling carries over the Mini tradition
Engine and performance
The.6-litre petrol engine range is turbocharged in the 182bhp Cooper S and aspirated in the 120bhp Cooper. You get the diesel variants in 2.0-litre, 141bhp and 1.6-, 111bhp. There is a 6-speed manual gearbox as well as 6-speed automatic. Fuel economy ranges from to 46.3mpg to 64.2mpg and one can touch 0-62mph in 7.5sec. The default adjustments for the corners offer just the correct balance and one can order the Paceman with the usual suspension at no extra costs. The new Mini Paceman is exactly how a Mini should drive. Weighing 15 pounds less than the Countryman trim, one cannot give it the go-kart status but it comes creditably close.
Safety features
Mini Paceman safety ratings are high that take care of the occupant protection as well as the pedestrian. The suspension, sensors and brakes handle the tricky driving situations and the collection of design features offer complete protection in case of a collision. There are brilliant lights, stronger body, powerful tyres and fast airbags that make it safer.
Pros
- Fun to drive
- Unique style
Cons
- Frustrating interior controls
- Cramped rear space
One of the negative aspects of the all MINI models is that consumers are no longer very sure as to what model they are looking at. What makes new MINI Paceman unique is that this is the first ever crossover for the brand and a larger version of the traditional hardtop. The MINI packs in lot of interior space in the smaller size and stands a great chance of winning over those customers who used to reject the MINI earlier because of their smaller size. The brand retains its fun qualities and stylish looks and is a lot more fun to drive. It’s still quite fuel-efficient and seems like a natural evolution. American consumers have long been asking for larger cars from the brand and it seems that the new Mini Paceman fulfills some of the consumer demands on the list.
The Paceman range will launch in March 2013 and although the pricing strategy remains questionable, customer will buy the Minis, not because they need them but because they want them.
