Summer Comes To An End At Frank Myers Auto

Time marches on and summer is fast slipping away. Goodbye lazy days of summer; hello crazy days of back to school, back to work and back to business. I hope all of you enjoyed a vacation, a siesta or at the very least a sleepy Sunday spent in pajamas this summer. As Sam Keen said so eloquently, “Deep summer is when laziness finds respectability.” Now it’s time to pack up lazy, pick up the pace and look forward to the start of a new season.

Fall is always a little exciting. There is so much to look forward to . . . cooler temperatures, big breezes, football games, the holiday season, and a return to routine. Fall is cozy and predictable like my favorite old sweater!

Here are a few things you can do to prepare for a smooth transition from relaxed to recharged this August . . .

1. Make a plan—spend a few hours figuring out what you want to accomplish this fall. The busy days ahead will be much more manageable with a plan in place.

2. Schedule appointments—make sure and visit your dentist, doctor, chiropractor, dermatologist, and whoever else you need to visit to stay healthy in the months ahead.

3. Donate—clean out your closets and drawers to make room for organization. Spend a few hours giving away things you don’t need to charity. It will help you and help others while keeping your house organized this fall.

4. Health break—take a few days to cleanse your body. Drink water instead of soda. Choose fruit over candy. Skip fried foods and fill your plate with healthy choices like brown rice, lean meat and salad. Healthy eating will give you the physical boost you need to approach fall with muster.

5. Sleep well—go to bed a little bit earlier so that you can wake up well rested in the morning. Keep nighttime distractions to a minimum. Invest in new sheets and a high-quality pillow. Happy nights make for happy mornings.

Follow these tips to keep the demands of fall from sneaking up on you! I’m planning on doing the same, just as soon as I wrap up one of my super important summer to-do list items . . . taking a summer siesta. ZZZZZZZZZ.

There shall be eternal summer in the grateful heart. ~Celia Thaxter

Frank Myers Auto Maxx Named One Of America’s Fastest-Growing Private Companies By Inc. Magazine

Winston Salem used car dealership, Frank Myers Auto Maxx, has been recognized by Inc. Magazine in their annual Inc. 500/5000 list, an exclusive ranking of the fastest-growing privately held companies in America.  Frank Myers Auto Maxx has earned the position of 3,576 on this prestigious list, which is considered a hallmark of entrepreneurial success. Past members of the list include Intuit, Zappos, Under Armour, Microsoft, Jamba Juice, Timberland, ClifBar, Patagonia, Oracle and Zipcar. In addition to Frank Myers Auto Maxx, the 2012 list added such powerhouses as Publix Supermarkets, CDW, Levi Strauss and a little social media company called Facebook.

“For more than 30 years, Inc. has celebrated the fastest growing private companies in America. To be honored this year is a particularly notable achievement. To rank among the 2012 Inc. 500/5000, the companies had to thrive through three of the toughest years this economy has seen in recent memory. Success in such times is eloquent testimony to creativity, resilience, and tenacity,” said Inc. Editor in Chief.

Complete results of the Inc. 5000, including company profiles and an interactive database that can be sorted by industry, region, and other criteria, can be found at www.inc.com/5000.

Methodology

The 2012 Inc. 500|5000 is ranked according to percentage revenue growth when comparing 2008 to 2011. To qualify, companies must have been founded and generating revenue by March 31, 2008. They had to be U.S.-based, privately held, for profit, and independent—not subsidiaries or divisions of other companies—as of December 31, 2011. (Since then, a number of companies on the list have gone public or been acquired.) The minimum revenue required for 2008 is $100,000; the minimum for 2011 is $2 million. As always, Inc. reserves the right to decline applicants for subjective reasons. Companies on the Inc. 500 are featured in Inc.’s September issue. They represent the top tier of the Inc. 5000, which can be found at www.inc.com/500.

Tire Replacement Experts in Grapevine

Tire ReplacementYour car can only operate at its peak efficiency if every part is working correctly. This includes your tires, which are 4 of the most important parts of your car. Family Tire & Service is an auto repair company in Grapevine that has over 40 years’ experience in the industry. Let our experts handle all of your auto repair needs, including your tire replacements.

Your tires are essential to making your car run. In addition to your brakes, the treads on your tires help your car come to a stop. Treads also keep your car gripping the ground, preventing slippages during wet or icy conditions. If your tires are not working at their peak performance levels, you could be setting yourself and anyone traveling in your car with you up for potentially dangerous situations.

Not sure if your tires need replacing? The “penny test” is one common way that you can check your tires at home for wear and tear. If you can see the top of Abraham Lincoln’s head when you place a penny upside-down in one of the tread grooves of your tires, it’s most likely time for new tires. If your tires fail or are close to failing the penny test, bring them in to the Family Tire & Service auto repair shop for a full inspection.

Family Tire & Service are the experts on tire replacement. We stock several tire brands, including Michelin, Goodyear, Crosswind, Bridgestone, and more, ensuring that no matter your car’s make, model, or specific needs, we’ll have the right tires for you. We proudly serve the city of Grapevine and surrounding areas with quality auto repair jobs and would love to help you make your car safer and more efficient. Car Battery: Small but Powerful!

If you don’t have a powerful car battery sitting in your electricity-dependent automobile, your car becomes a large curb-hogging paperweight. The car battery, which produces voltage to the electrical components of the vehicle, is basically a lead-acid electrochemical storage compartment that acts as an electrical reservoir. Proper care (topping off electrolyte levels with distilled water, making sure terminals aren’t corroded, can extend battery life to as much as five years and prevent a premature car battery replacement. Beware though, harsh climates can cut that figure in half.

Obscure Traffic Laws

It’s important to know the rules of the road, especially when traveling in an unfamiliar place, so we’ve put together a list of laws you may not know but will want to keep in mind when traveling across the United States.

If you just got done playing with a piñata, make sure to remove your blindfold before driving your car because in Alabama driving while blindfolded is illegal.

While visiting California, be sure to obey the speed limits. If there’s no driver in your car, be extra careful because the vehicle’s speed cannot exceed 60mph without a driver. And if you pass through Eureka, California along the way and get tired, try to find a sidewalk because it’s illegal to use the road as a bed. If you’d rather sleep in your car just make sure you wake up before you reach Tennessee because here it is illegal to drive while you are sleeping. As you continue on your journey, and if you’ve had enough sleep and just need to rest, while stopping in Nevada be sure not to place your bench or chair in the middle of the road because it is illegal here. And last, if you pass through Oregon along your journey always yield to pedestrians when driving on the sidewalk.

Oh, and if you decide to switch your mode of transportation in Illinois, keep in mind that “fancy riding” on bicycles is illegal here.

Have Pets? While driving in Alaska, your car may be full, but be sure to clear a seat for your best friend because it’s illegal to tie your dog to the roof of the car. And when in Massachusetts make sure the front seat is clear because it’s illegal for your gorilla to ride in the back. Not driving a car? If an elephant is your choice of vehicle for the day and you’re in Florida, when parking at a meter you must pay the meter as if he were a car. And if you drive him up to Virginia you cannot park him on Main Street. Decided not to take the elephant for a ride and went with your camel instead? Keep in mind it’s illegal to drive him on the highway in Nevada. And last, if you’re not using your pet as a mode of transportation and decided to take him for a walk instead, don’t tie your alligator to a fire hydrant while in New Orleans. And while walking your chicken in Quitman, Georgia, if you want to keep him out of trouble, don’t let him cross the road.

Feeling Green? Just remember, it’s illegal to plant trees in the road in Blairstown, New Jersey, or to plant rutabagas in the road in Chico, California.

2013 Gibbs Quadski Review

The rising demand for better automobiles is pushing car makers across the world to incorporate new features and options for buyers that would attract them. The competition in the world of automobiles has led to more innovation and improvement in technologies that can allow the vehicle to be more comfortable and functional than ever before. Today, vehicle manufacturers around the world would like to bring out options and features that are new to the automobile sector and that can sensation in the market. The 2013 Gibbs Quadski is an amphibian vehicle that works like an ATV and also like a personal watercraft.

Let’s take a quick look at some of the top features of the vehicle in the 2013 Gibbs Quadski review below.

Exterior

  • Since the vehicle has to withstand lot of pressure and rough terrain conditions Gibbs has decided to keep this amphibian vehicle simple and functional. The outer body is very functional and aerodynamic as well to ensure that there are no problems when you are using as ATV.
  • The body is hard enough but lightweight to ensure that it can become your personal watercraft whenever you want it. Gibbs has tried to keep the weight of the vehicle as per the standards and the design of the vehicle suits both off-road conditions and water.
  • The hull design of the vehicle offers better stability and handling on off-roads and even while the vehicle is under water.

Performance

  • The all new Quadski is powered by 1.3 liter four cylinder BMW engine which is used in the K1300 motorcycle and Gibbs believes that the engine produces enough horsepower to work as an ATV and also as PWC.
  • The engine produces 175 horsepower and 103 lb feet of torque and the vehicle can reach the top speed of 50 mph on land and 40 mph in the water. The vehicle also has six speed automated manual transmission that allows the rider to handle the vehicle in a better way.
  • To make the vehicle shock-free, Gibbs has introduced better suspension technology that ensures that the riders feel less bumps when they are on tough off-road conditions but it takes only four seconds for the vehicle to turn into personal watercraft.
  • The performance under water is equally good and Gibbs introduces better water jet propulsion technology which is lighter and compact than traditional marine water jets.

Pricing

  • The all new 2013 Gibbs Quadski comes at a base price starting at $39,990.

Cons

  • Although, the price itself is just too high for the buyers, 2013 Gibbs Quadski also has many other features that might not appeal to buyers around the world.

It can accommodate only one person which is the rider itself, and there is no enough space underneath to store helmet and life jacket.

Car Tune Up: Is a tune up really necessary?

For most of today's cars, “engine performance maintenance” is a more accurate term rather than “car tune up.” The word "tune-up" actually applies to older cars, on which you can perform the traditional work associated with the terms; spark plug replacement, ignition contact point replacement, dwell adjustment, ignition timing adjustment, carburetor idle, and mixture adjustment.  All modern cars and light trucks are equipped with an electronic ignition (no points) and at least one on-board computer that automatically adjust items like the ignition timing, fuel mixture and idle speed. In fact, it's impossible to adjust these components yourself.

Safelite’s Internal Auto Glass Repair and Replacement Technician Contest Scheduled for Feb 8

After nearly half a year of qualifying contests and division competitions, the auto glass company Safelite’s internal competition for identifying the best auto glass repair and replacement technicians in the company is coming to its national heat, with the country’s best technicians coming to New Orleans on the 8th of February to duke it out amongst each other.  The technicians shall be meeting in the River City Ballroom of Mardi Gras World, and the event shall be running from 8:00hrs to 17:00hrs of that day.

This competition has been going on for a while now, with the first event having taken place last year, on the 10th of September for the auto glass repair company’s Southern California division.  Two more competitions took place in that same month, one for the South Atlantic and one for the technicians of Ohio Valley, followed by four competitions in October for the Pacific Southwest, Northwest, Mid-South, and South, in order of occurrence.  November had only two division contests, with the Midwest and the Rockies heats being decided, and the one contest for December was the North Atlantic division heat.

Also called the Best of Belron Competition, this company event is going to see contestants being tested on various skills and competencies, being asked to perform a range of procedures that shall include windshield repair and windshield replacement in order to demonstrate their skill at their chosen profession.  The requirements are quite rigorous and evaluation is famously strict, with speed not even taking the front seat when it comes to the most important aspects of the procedure or repair required: quality, strict technical prowess, and even interaction with the consumer are all looked into first and foremost in the contest, in order to ascertain a truly outstanding, superior breed of auto glass repair technician.

The national heat that is going to be taking place this February is of particular import because it decides who gets to represent the country in the coming global heat of the competition.  There are going to be 32 countries participating in the event, so winning that round—the final one—would be a most prestigious honour indeed for any auto glass technician.  The need to ensure that the country is well-represented also factors in the tension surrounding the coming event, so both participants and judges are expected to be fairly amped up for the contest.

The auto glass repair technician who wins the national heat gets more than the chance to represent the country in Barcelona, Spain on the 22nd-24th of May for the global part of the contest: he is also going to be taking home a total of $10,000 in pocket money as an additional reward.

Upsizing Wheels and Tires With Atlantic Car Care

At AutoNetTV we love doughnuts. So let’s pretend you have three doughnuts right in front of your for our discussion of upsizing wheels and tires. Hey, don’t eat them now – your going to need them later.

Many people want to accessorize their car – you know, make it theirs. One of the easiest ways to get a custom look is to get some new wheels. There are thousands of wheel designs out there to get you the look you want. And for many, that look includes bigger wheels. It used to be that cars came from the factory with 15 or 16 inch wheels. Now 16, 17 and even 18 inchers are standard. And the factories are offering optional wheel packages up to 20 inches or more.

Come in to Atlantic Car Care to learn more about how you might upsize your wheels or tires.
You’ll find us at 21 New Bern Street in Wilmington, North Carolina 28403.

So let’s talk about what to consider when you want to upsize your wheels. It’s not exactly a do it yourself project, so you need to know a thing or two before you get started. The most important term to know is rolling diameter. The rolling diameter is simply the overall height of your tire. Unless you want to modify your suspension, you’ll want to keep your rolling diameter the same when you upsize your wheels.

Let’s think about those three golden doughnuts in front of you. They’re all about the same size. So if we pretend they’re tires, they would have the same rolling diameter. The doughnut hole is the size of the wheel. Now pretend we’ve made the hole bigger on some. That’s like having a bigger wheel – but the rolling diameter is the same.

It’s important to keep the rolling diameter the same for several reasons. First of all, if the tire is bigger, it might not fit in the wheel well. Next the speedometer, odometer and anti-lock brake system are all calibrated for the factory rolling diameter. In order for your anti-lock brakes to work properly, the rolling diameter must stay within 3% of the factory recommendation. If you ignore that, you run the risk that your anti-lock brakes won’t work properly.

Some cars today have electronically controlled suspension that will be negatively affected by changing the rolling diameter. Let’s think about the doughnuts again. You see, as the size of the wheel gets bigger, the sidewall gets shorter. The tire holds less air, so the sidewalls are made stiffer to compensate.

Low profile tires from top manufacturers use special compounds that give the sidewall the strength it needs without compromising ride quality. As you increase your wheel size, you’ll typically get a slightly wider tire. This means that you have a larger contact patch. The contact patch is part of the tire that contacts the road. Because there’s more rubber on the road, the vehicle will handle better. And braking distances will be shorter. A lot of people with trucks or SUV’s love the extra control.

You do have to watch out that the contact patch isn’t so big that the tires rub in turns or over bumps. What we’re talking about here is fitment. Your tire professional at Atlantic Car Care can help you get this right. He’ll install your new wheels, add spacers if needed to make sure your brakes fit inside your new wheels, and get you rolling.

Also, if you drive off-road a lot, you may need a higher profile tire to protect your new rims. And make sure your new tires have the load rating you need if you tow a trailer or haul heavy loads. Again, your tire professional at Atlantic Car Care knows how to help.

And don’t forget about tire pressure. If you have larger rims, your new tires will hold less air and they’ll need to run a slightly higher pressure. Forget that and you’ll wear your tires out fast. Finally, get an alignment after you get your new shoes. AutoNetTV wants you to safely have the look you want.

Another Couple of Years: Making Your Vehicle Last At Atlantic Car Care

A while back, the Cash for Clunkers program was all over the news. Wilmington people could trade in their old vehicle for a new one that got better fuel economy and receive a government rebate.

A lot of Wilmington motorists had so-called clunkers that they wanted to keep. They’re good commuters, grocery getters or toy haulers. They enjoy that fact that they’re paid off, or soon will be. They would gladly like to keep their sedanss for 200,000 miles or more – as long as it’s economical to do so.

There are plenty of Wilmington drivers whose vehicles are running after 150,000 or 200,000 miles. We can learn from what they’re doing to keep our own sedanss on the road in North Carolina.

Wilmington drivers of high-mileage cars often report a common denominator of never skipping an oil change. Another Couple of Years: Making Your Vehicle Last At Atlantic Car CareThat may sound a bit unsophisticated, but it’s really not. First off, oil is the life blood of your sedans’s engine and it needs to be clean to properly lubricate. Skipping oil changes leads to clogged oil filters and sludge that can damage your engine.

There’s another reason why the scheduled oil change is so important for Wilmington car owners. It’s simple – a Atlantic Car Care professional is going to be looking at your car. All of your fluid levels will be inspected and topped off so they won’t get so low that damage can be done. If there is a significant fluid loss, let’s use brake fluid as an example, your Atlantic Car Care technician can look for the cause of the loss and find the problem before it leads to an accident or costly repair.

Your Atlantic Car Care advisor will also visually inspect your sedans for worn belts and hoses, uneven tire wear, leaking shock absorbers and more. Problems get addressed before they lead to repairs that cost more than the car’s worth.

And your Atlantic Car Care advisor will be able to remind you of other services that the factory recommends you get done. Just think of that oil change the same way as you do about going to your Wilmington dentist for your six month cleaning and checkup. Don’t skip it.

Realistically, things are going to wear out as your sedans gets older. On the way to 200,000 miles you’ll go through several batteries, probably a couple of alternators and water pumps, a set of shocks and likely some brake rotors.

Of course, these things cost money, but they are far cheaper than new sedans payments. With proper service at Atlantic Car Care and regular inspections, you’ll keep surprise repairs to a minimum and more money in your wallet.

Gun Used to Break Auto Glass in Utah New Year’s Eve Rescue

New Year’s Eve turned from a fun holiday to a harrowing night for a Utah family on the way to Beaver Mountain when an accident caused their car to slide into the chilly Logan River.  Apparently, Roger Andersen was driving with his two children, both under ten years of age, and a friend when he lost control of the car in a section of Highway 89 known for its high accident occurrence.  The car fell into the river and while the adults were able to get out of the car subsequently, the two children were apparently stuck inside, with the auto glass windows blocking their egress and their seatbelts strapping them where they were.

Fortunately for the family, the locals passing by the area were quick to help.  One particular trio, composed of a former policeman named Chris Willden, was instrumental to the rescue of the pair of trapped children.  Willden and his companions, his father as well as his son, immediately jumped to action upon seeing the state of the family and the vehicle, and freed the children from their cage by shattering the auto glass of the rear window with his pistol.

According to Willden, it was necessary to take that measure because there was no other way of accessing the two children inside the rapidly flooding car.  Although he and his father—along with the adults with whom the children were travelling—first attempted to open the car doors to extricate the trapped pair, they found that the doors were locked.  The problem was aggravated by the rising water in the car, which could well have caused hypothermia for the two children had they been permitted to stay longer where they were.  Thinking quickly, the former police officer aimed his pistol downward—to ensure that the bullet would eject without hurting the two persons in the car—and at the window of the vehicle, breaking the tempered auto glass and thus gaining access to the inside of the vehicle.

There Willden managed to cut loose the two children from their seatbelts and extracted them from the flooding vehicle.  The unfortunate family in the accident was taken to nearby hospitals soon after, and were pronounced to be in fair condition only recently.  While the two children actually started out in the ICU of the children’s hospital to which they were brought, their status was deemed to be vastly improved after medical care was given to them to stave off the possibility of shock or hypothermia.  Local authorities are already crediting the quick and efficient rescue of the family to the dozen people who helped, most especially to Chris Willden, for his quick actions in breaking the auto glass to free the pair from the vehicle.

Are There Blind Spots In San Diego California?

Everyone in San Diego California has blind spots – and no, I’m not talking about the fact that you really don’t sing like Jessica Simpson. I mean the areas of the road that you can’t see when you’re driving around San Diego.

First let’s talk about our own blinds spots, and then we can talk about others…

To begin, we can greatly reduce our blind spots by properly adjusting our mirrors to give the widest coverage possible. Make the adjustments in your Nissan Z before you start to drive.

First, adjust your rear view mirror to give the best possible view directly to the rear of your car. You don’t need it to get a better view of either side of the car, the kids in the back seat or your dazzling smile. The rear view mirror should look to the rear.

Next, lean your head until it almost touches the driver’s side window. Adjust your side mirror so that you can just barely see the side of your car.

    Aero Auto Repair
We’re on 9756 Aero Drive in San Diego, California (92123)
Call us to make an appointment at 858-309-4274.

Now, lean your head to the middle of the car and adjust the outside mirror so that you can barely see the right side of the car.

With your mirrors adjusted this way, you’ll have maximum coverage. Of course driving is a dynamic process – things change every second. So it’s wise to take a quick look to the side when passing to make sure that another vehicle hasn’t moved into an area you couldn’t see in your mirrors.

Depending on the kind of vehicle you drive (Nissan Z?), you may still have some blind spots. All vehicles have an area behind them that’s blind when backing up. The bigger the vehicle, the bigger the blind spot. A pick up or SUV can hide a small child – an RV, bus or tractor-trailer can hide an entire vehicle. So be careful around our San Diego streets!

As you drive around the San Diego area, avoid staying in other diver’s blind spots. You can’t count on them to be watching their mirrors and looking out for you.

Let’s talk about safely sharing the road with heavy trucks and buses. In crashes involving a truck and car, the car causes about 40 percent of the accidents. But 78 percent of the fatalities are with the car. The laws of physics are against the smaller vehicle, so it pays to take extra precautions around trucks and buses.

Heavy vehicles have huge blind spots: to the rear, on both sides and up front. They also can’t maneuver like a car. They take twice as long to stop and need twice as much space as you do in your Nissan Z or other type of car. You need to keep wide margins when driving around one of these big rigs.

Here are some tips for passing a heavy vehicle in the San Diego area:

    • Avoid the blind spots. If you can’t see the driver’s face in one of his mirrors or in a window, he cannot see you!
    • Don’t follow too close. If you can’t see one of the truck’s mirrors, you’re too close.
    • Make sure there is plenty of room to pass. Trucks are long and take time to get around. If you’re on one of our local San Diego California two way highways, wait for a passing zone.
    • Don’t linger when passing. Because the blind spots are so big on the sides, you want to get through them quickly. If you can’t pass quickly, drop back.
    • Pass on the left whenever possible. A trucks’ blind spot is much larger on the right.
    • Be attentive and wear your seat belts while driving anywhere around San Diego, even short drives.
    • Don’t be aggressive when driving around trucks. Because of their size, they appear to be going slower than they really are. Cutting it short around a truck could be disastrous.
    • Use your turn signals when starting to pass. Once you can see the full truck in your rear view mirror, it’s safe to signal and move over. Don’t cut it short or slow quickly when you pull in front of a truck.
    • Be careful passing a truck at an intersection. Trucks need to turn wide to maneuver through city streets. Squeezing between a truck and the curb could put your car in the San Diego body shop. Look for the truck’s turn signals.

We at Aero Auto Repair want you to watch those blind spots – but feel free to sing in the shower all you want.

    Recommended San Diego Service Intervals

Everyone in San Diego California knows we’re supposed to go to the dentist twice a year. We get our teeth cleaned and have a thorough dental inspection. Once a year, we get x-rays to look for problems that can’t be seen with the naked eye. When the dentist is done, he tells us what he’s found – “Everything’s fine, see you in six months.” Or “You’ve got a small cavity starting, let’s schedule an appointment to take care of it.” By the time you leave, you have a plan for addressing any necessary repairs.

This system works so much better than waiting for a painful problem before going into the dentist. Small problems are fixed before they turn into big problems. And you avoid those huge bills.

If we buy into this way of handling our dental care, why do we resist so much when facing the same system for our car care?

    Aero Auto Repair

Following the manufacturer’s recommended intervals can be confusing. First there are recommendations for so many things: oil changes, transmission, coolant, air conditioning, power steering, brakes, fuel system, filters, belts, hoses, alignment, rotation, balancing …you get the point.

Every item has a recommended interval and it’s hard to keep it all straight – even if you’re part of the 1% of the population that reads your owners’ manual in San Diego California.

And if you have more than one car or Nissan Z, the complexity is multiplied. You’d need a computer to keep track of everything. Well, that’s how your San Diego service center does it. They subscribe to automotive databases that have your vehicle’s recommended intervals. You may have wondered how they know what else to recommend when you take your car in for an oil change – it’s all in the computer.

Well, it’s not all in the computer. There are other variables that can’t be accounted for in the schedule. Things like the weather conditions, altitude, and where and how you drive when you are out in our San Diego California area need to be taken into account. Talk about these things with your service advisor at Aero Auto Repair and you may decide that the severe service schedule in your owner’s manual is more appropriate.

Since anything that’s not highway driving in moderate weather is considered severe, most of us do at least some of that around San Diego California and it should be taken into consideration.

Let’s take your basic oil change as an example – what issues are involved? The oil you put in your car is a blend of base oil and special additives. There are detergents to clean the inside of your engine and corrosion inhibitors. A good quality motor oil will not only lubricate your engine, it will help it stay clean inside and run cooler.

Now, these additives deplete with use and time. That’s why most maintenance recommendations include both a time and mileage element – like 3 months or 3,000 miles, whichever comes first.

It’s easy to think, “Gee, I’ve only driven 2,000 miles in the last 3 months. I can wait on that oil change.” But you need to remember that the inside of your engine is a harsh environment. The oil is contaminated with combustion by-products that starts degrading its effectiveness even when it’s just sitting there.

A lot of people in San Diego California don’t realize the harm that can be done by just skipping a single oil change. There are a lot of metal parts moving around in your engine. Small bits of metal wear off and are floating around in your oil. They can be carried to more delicate areas of the engine where they cause damage. Your oil filter is designed to trap metal particles and other dirt, but if it’s clogged up because you haven’t changed it, it can’t trap any more.

Oil sludge is another problem. Sludge is oil that has turned to a gunky jelly – think ‘Vaseline’. Obviously, sludge doesn’t lubricate. It can also clog small oil passages so that all the parts don’t get properly protected by the oil. That’ll lead to premature wear.

If you’ve missed some oil changes, don’t despair. Just talk with your service advisor at Aero Auto Repair. Fess up – you’ll feel better. And he can help you get back on track. Following recommended intervals is the key to keeping your car on the road and avoiding major repairs in San Diego California.

Take a look at the auto tips video in this post for more information.
