Atlantic Car Care: Why Replace Your Engine Air Filter?

Your browser does not support video

Just as our bodies need clean air to function properly, your sedans engine needs clean air to operate efficiently. Let’s go egghead for a minute. For every gallon of gas we burn driving on North Carolina expressways, twenty pounds of carbon dioxide comes out the tailpipe. Question: how can a gallon of gas that weighs a little over six pounds produce twenty pounds of carbon dioxide?

The answer is that the carbon comes from the gasoline, but the oxygen comes from the air. You see, it takes about twelve thousand gallons of air to burn a gallon of gas in your engine. Clearly, your sedans needs a lot of air to keep going in Heampstead. A lot of clean air is best.

Atlantic Car Care: Why Replace Your Engine Air Filter? You’ve seen the pictures of people in Japan wearing face masks. They want some kind of filter to keep unwanted pollution and germs out of their lungs. Well, your sedans also works better when its internals are clean. When your sedans air filter’s dirty, it simply can’t trap any more dirt, so the pollutants just pass through into your air intake system. From there it can clog your fuel injectors and even get into the motor itself. Not surprisingly, burning dust and pollen in your sedans engine does you no good.

So, we’re talking potential damage for Wilmington drivers. But another big thing is wasted fuel. Your sedans engine management computer tries to mix the correct amount of air in with the fuel. If the filter’s clogged, there isn’t enough air for the optimal fuel to air mix and that really messes with fuel efficiency.

In fact, replacing a dirty air filter at Atlantic Car Care in Wilmington can improve your fuel economy by up to ten percent. At today’s Heampstead fuel prices, you should be able to pay for a new air filter before your next oil change.

The verdict: When your sedans engine air filter needs to be replaced; it needs to be replaced. How often depends entirely on the level of air pollution where you drive in North Carolina. A simple visual inspection at Atlantic Car Care will tell you when you need a new engine air filter.

When you look at the air filter on your furnace at home and see it’s all clogged up with dust and dirt, you don’t hesitate to replace it. When your Atlantic Car Care service advisor shows you your nasty engine air filter, you now know why you should go ahead and replace it.

Replacing Your Tires to Pass the Texas State Inspection

New TiresIf you need to reregister your car in Texas, first you need to pass an inspection. The yearly inspection ensures that all Texas cars are safe to drive on the road. The tires are an important part of this inspection. If you need help passing the Texas state inspection, Family Tire & Service can help you get your car ready to pass.

The tires are one of the most important pieces of any vehicle inspection in Texas. If the tires are not in proper shape, it can cause them to slip on wet or icy roads or to blow out while driving. Both of these problems could cause a serious accident, especially if the car is being driven at a high speed. For this reason, Texas requires tires to have a tread depth of at least 3/32 inches.

Older or worn-out tires often don’t have the recommended tread depth because a portion of the tire has rubbed off while driving on the road. These tires need to be replaced before you can pass the inspection. Buying new tires is often the best option. You can buy used tires more cheaply, but these tires may wear out before your next inspection.

Not all new tires are created equally. You want to make sure that your new tires not only have the proper tread depth, but are also designed to last for several years. New tires differ in price, and the most expensive tires are not necessarily the best ones for your needs.

You’ll need a tire replacement service in Grapevine that you can trust if you don’t know a lot about tires. That way, you can make sure you are getting the tires you need to pass your inspection and drive safely throughout the rest of the year. Call Family Tire & Service at 817-488-5520 to schedule your inspection appointment today.

Will Your Car Pass the Texas State Vehicle Inspections?

Vehicle InspectionIf you’re like most people, you don’t spend your entire day thinking about your car and how you can tweak every aspect of it for perfect performance. Not many people have a full arsenal of spare headlight bulbs, and few individuals test for alignment on a regular basis. But there’s a difference between not being obsessive and not being diligent, and the latter behavior can lead to problems, particularly when it comes time for state vehicle inspections. Whether you think you need a simple vehicle tune-up or more extensive work requiring a Grapevine auto repair specialist, your best bet is Family Tire & Service. With professional and courteous service guaranteed, Family Tire can take care of your car so you don’t have to worry.

Importance of Upkeep

No one is perfect, and if you have a busy life, finding time for checking into seemingly minor car problems may seem like more trouble than it’s worth. However, failing to address problems with your car—be it a faulty transmission or a non-functional turning signal—can have serious impact on those around you. Neglecting vehicle maintenance may not only cause you to fail your Texas state vehicle inspection, but can also put your life in danger.

Let the Experts Assist You

There’s no doubt about it—vehicles are complex machines. And if you don’t have experience trying to repair one, every problem may seem like a daunting task. And if you’re not an expert, you may actually make the problem worse. Don’t let the pressure of an upcoming inspection get to you; take your car or truck to the experts at Family Tire.

For more than two decades, this state-of-the-art facility has provided engine diagnostics, tune-ups, oil changes, and more, all at competitive prices and with consistent, personal care. The professionals at Family Tire & Service are always happy to help, and you can trust their expert assistance. Call 817-488-5520 for more information and to schedule your inspection.

What’s Car Talk’s Second Opinion? Joe Might Be Able to Skip the New Engine!

  • Location: Boston, MA
  • The Opinion: New Engine
  • The Boat Payment: $5,000
  • The Savings: $1,400

Car Talk Second Opinion

Joe’s daughter let her Honda Element run low on coolant. Unfazed by those increasingly stern warning lights appearing in the dash, she drove on for miles — until the car overheated, warping the engine block.

Realizing that it was time to see a mechanic, she turned the keys back over to dear old dad, who took it to the dealer. Repair was out of the question due to the extent of the damage.  The Element needed a new engine and the dealer could get one for $5,000. Or he could consider a rebuilt engine for less money– but also fewer guarantees.

Joe picked up the phone and called Car Talk Second Opinion. Our mechanics thought that putting a brand-new engine in a used car didn’t make the most sense. And for a car with less than 100,000 miles, the dealer’s $5,000 offer to repair the car was not all that generous. With a little research, our mechanics found a replacement engine that came with a 70,000-mile warranty. And, once that engine is purchased and installed (for an estimate of $3,600), the car’s trade-in value will be back up in the neighborhood of $12,000.  Our mechanic saved him $1,400 up front and even with the initial investment, ensured that Joe can look forward to getting almost twice as much on a trade-in as the dealership originally offered.

Car Talk Help with Honda

Update: Joe replaced the engine with a used model and a brand-new water pump (the probable culprit). The Element is still a beloved member of the family.

Winter Weather Possibly Coming To NC; Tips Offered For Drivers

Triad Winter Weather Driving TipsWhile a lot of the country has been slammed with nasty winter weather this year, the Piedmont Triad area of NC has mostly avoided it. However, the forecast for next week doesn’t look promising. In fact, some weather people are calling for as much as a foot of snow being dumped sometime in the Winston-Salem, High Point and Kernersville areas mid-week. If that happens, the only ones who will benefit are grocery stores, towing companies and body shops.

Yes, I said body shops. It’s no secret that most people in the South aren’t very good at driving in the snow. In their defense, it’s not their fault. They simply don’t have the same experience as their Northern friends. That’s why it’s important to share a few tips on driving safely in winter weather.

Tips For Driving On Snow & Ice

1) Make sure you can see out of your windshield. This sounds like common sense but like Will Rogers said: “Common sense ain’t so common.” Cleaning the snow and/or ice off of your entire car, including the headlights, is the 1st step but there are others such as making sure you have good windshield wipers  and have anti-icing fluid in your windshield washer system.

2) Watch out for “black ice”. Yeah, it’s tough to see it but it’s deadly so driver beware. It’s also called “glare ice” and the name does it justice. Sometimes it looks nearly transparent, other times it simply looks like a puddle of water and sometimes it can’t be seen at all. Snow is much easier to deal with than this.

3) Make sure your tires are properly inflated. Remember your parents or grandparents checking their tire pressure every time they bought gas for their car? Do YOU do that? Didn’t think so. While you should check your tire pressure often, it’s a “must do” when snow and ice are covering the ground.

4) Don’t use cruise control. Why? Because it’s dangerous to do so when driving on any slippery surface.

5) Accelerate and decelerate slowly. Better yet, do everything slower when you’re driving on snow and ice covered roads.

6) Make sure you have gas in your car. At least half a tank is recommended.

7) Make sure you have your cell phone. You also need to have your cell phone car charger with you.

8) Make sure your car battery is fully charged. Frank Myers Auto Repair can help you do this for no charge. Simply give them a call at (336) 831-0656 or visit their website at http://www.FrankMyersAutoRepair.com to schedule a time to drop by.

9) Carry some basic supplies with you. Things like an ice scraper, a shovel, a bag of sand, blankets, bottled water and non-perishable snacks could go a long way if you are ever stuck in your car during winter weather.

10) Stay at home. The basic rule of thumb during bad winter weather especially in the South, is STAY HOME.

Of course, the weather pros are wrong more times than they are right so this information may be for naught. If so, keep it handy because the bad winter weather usually sneaks up on you when you least expect it. Until then, you better get to the grocery store with the rest of the Triad peeps. The milk and bread will be gone soon.

Tire Repair: It’s all about the Pressure!

Experienced drivers probably already understand the importance of having the correct air pressure in your tires. New drivers should remember that checking air pressure is a vital tire service! The incorrect inflation pressure can cause premature wear and tear of the tread, void the manufacturer's warranty, and may cause permanent damage to your wheel. If the air pressure has been consistently lower or higher than the recommended pressure listed in your owner's manual, it may be time for a little tire repair, or it's time to purchase new tires!

Why is the correct inflation pressure so important?

Automatic Auto Glass Cleaning Robot Now Sold in the UK

Do you hate having to wash the windshield or car windows regularly but want a perfect shine each time you go out for a drive?  Well, you can apparently leave the job in capable hands now: robot hands, to be precise.  An automatic auto glass cleaning device has just been released for sale in the UK recently, with orders already stacking up for the handy gadget every finicky car owner—or housekeeper would love to have.

The item is called Windoro, and it is being marketed as the first automatic cleaning robot for pane glass or windows.  It was actually released last year in Germany, and won high acclaim there, being one of the stars of the Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin, also known as the IFA at the time.  In fact, it sold over a thousand units there, and immediately showed that it had great marketing potential.

Now, consumers from Ireland and the UK can order the item from the manufacturer’s website.  If you are wondering how this robot works, it is actually quite simple, yet at the same time ingenuous.  The Windoro unit, instead of being operated by some sort of pulley system that drags it across the glass after being set up in a complex rig over the area to be cleaned, simplifies the matter of working on the glass surface by attaching to it in itself.  The attachment is actually through magnetism.

If you were to use this item to clean your auto glass, you would have to take the two parts of the device—they look like robot or metal versions of the two bread halves of a sandwich—and set them on opposite sides of the same piece or pane of glass.  Hence, if you are trying to get it to clean your windshield, you would place one half on the glass from the interior and the other facing it on the exterior.  The two clamp together by means of the attraction produced by the Neodymium-type magnets in their bodies.  The brilliant part of this is that you can prevent your auto glass from being damaged by modifying the strength of the magnets.

The device has LED lights that help the user figure out how high or low to set magnet intensity, as they flash red when it needs to go down and yellow when it needs to go up.  It can only work on auto glass that is within the 5 to 25 mm range in its thickness, but this fits the bill for your typical auto glass measurement anyway, so car owners should not worry about the device being incompatible with their windshields.  While UK and Ireland consumers are already welcoming the item on the market, US consumers shall undoubtedly be the same once the gadget hits shores stateside.

History Of Uncle Frank/Part 5 – The Astronaut

Frank Myers Nasa AstronautIn early 1961, Uncle Frank, always looking for the nicest, newest ride to offer his customers, managed to find a spot in the NASA astronaut program to see what all this space fuss was about. Few historians know that Uncle Frank was actually the first man in orbit, beating the Russians by a few weeks – after he climbed into the space capsule and “accidentally” hit the launch sequence.

The U.S. government hushed the whole thing up and Uncle Frank went back to his dealership. He knew he wouldn’t be selling any spacecraft in his lifetime because (a) used rockets weren’t very reliable and (b) the sticker price was, shall we say, astronomical.

About Uncle Frank

Uncle Frank has lived many lives and has many stories to share. He currently resides in Winston Salem, NC where he spends his days as the Frank Myers Auto Maxx Mascot.

Be sure to read History of Uncle Frank/Part 4 – Uncle Frank The Singing Star and check back for future editions later.

Ram Commercial to Introduce 2015 Ram ProMaster City – A High-Quality Small Van

2015 Ram ProMaster CityThe Ram Commercial Truck division revealed earlier this week that it is developing the 2015 Ram ProMaster City, a latest small van that is intended to target the North American audience. A part of the Ram ProMaster series, the van will compete against small passenger and commercial vans.

Reid Bigland, the President and CEO of Ram Truck Brand, Chrysler Group LLC., is delighted on the inclusion of the Ram ProMaster City in the Ram Commercial truck lineup, which already consists of a number of pickup trucks of Class Four and Five as well as vans. Bigland claims that his company will continue to expand its range of vans and trucks with the passage of time, as the Ram Commercial achieves more and more success in the different markets.

The president believes that one of the reasons behind the success of his company is its collaboration with Fiat Professional, which happens to be one of the leading brands of the world when it comes to commercial truck manufacturing. Working alongside highly skilled professionals of Fiat and having access to the modern technology give an edge to Ram truck brand over its competitors in the US and Canadian market.

The Ram ProMaster City follows the model of Fiat Doblo, which won the International Van of the Year award twice and is considered to be one of the most successful vans of the modern world with more than 1.3 million sales. Using the latest features when it comes to styling and engine, the Ram ProMaster City is expected to be an extremely powerful van, which should attract a huge number of potential customers in the North American market.

It needs to be mentioned that the Ram trucks is considered to be a reliable brand in the US and Canada, with a huge customer base.

Blessed Experience At Frank Myers Auto Maxx In Winston-Salem

Frank Myers Auto Reviews“My experience as a first time car buyer at Frank Myers this weekend was awesome. I’m not saying it because I was able to get a car the overall customer care was incredible! When I first came into the dealership I will be honest I was afraid! Because I got so many “No’s and Denies” in the past because of my lack of credit establishment. So I stepped out on faith and set an appointment to come in. Before purchase I owned an old beat up ’95 Honda Accord. With no money in my pocket and payday days away I gave it a try. My sales representative was good ol’ Micheal Wagner. He’s very eager to make stuff happen even if it kills him. He’s friendly and tries his very best to satisfy. After had given all my info results came back I needed a co-signer or thousands down. So I called up my dad. He came, but was a little discouraged because his credit wasn’t in good shape either. So we gave it a try. With him too…nothing. So with a smile on my face I vowed to save and come back. Once I got on the other side of town Wagner called me back and had a deal!!! Before I knew it u was signing off on a 2013 Toyota Corolla!!! And I drove off that day!!! I don’t force religion on nobody but God has a way of turning things around and blessing you when you’re humble. And that I was! And everyday I get in my car I thank him!!! I also thank the Frank Myers crew and my father because without them none of it would be possible!” – Actual Frank Myers Auto Mxxx Customer Review From May 28, 2014

Means Testing And Credit Counseling In Bankruptcy Proceedings

Means Testing And Credit Counseling In Bankruptcy Proceedings

Are you contemplating filing for bankruptcy in the state of Arizona? Then try to think a few essential things over first. Filing for bankruptcy shouldn’t be done haphazardly. It’s something that requires serious thought and planning as well. Usually, a person who is suffering severe and almost irreversible financial difficulties is one who should properly contemplate bankruptcy proceedings. But if you still have enough assets to cover your debts, then there may still be other better options for you to consider. That’s why it’s highly recommended that you should talk things out with a licensed bankruptcy lawyer in the state before actually going for it.

An experienced bankruptcy lawyer in Arizona will most likely require you to first undergo the means test and mandatory credit counseling before he will consider filing your bankruptcy petition. Why is this so? Stemming from the 2005 Reform Laws, these requirements were incorporated to the United States Bankruptcy Code in order to prevent abuses on the system. In the past, filing for bankruptcy was resorted to by more than just a few individuals to just frivolously avoid their financial obligations. This opened the doors to abuse which is why these tests were introduced as amendments to the existing legislation.

Essentially, the means test is for the purpose of evaluating the present income of the person as well as his remaining assets, assuming any are still left. The result of such assessment will determine whether he can file for bankruptcy under Chapter 7 or if he has no choice but to pursue a Chapter 13 bankruptcy instead. A Chapter 7 bankruptcy can only be filed if after undergoing the means test, the individual is found to be with very minimal to no assets left to cover his outstanding debts to his creditors. Your current income will also be calculated and reviewed accordingly to see if it can still be sufficient enough to meet your outstanding financial obligations.

As for the mandatory credit counseling, this lays down several crucial requirements for you to fulfill before you can file your petition. By the very term “mandatory,” failure to meet such requirements would lead to the dismissal of your petition by the bankruptcy courts. These requirements include:

  • Meeting with an approved credit counselor for a 90-minute session within 6 months before filing your bankruptcy petition;
  • Completing money management classes before your debts will be discharged; and
  • Developing a debt repayment schedule in case you’re filing under Chapter 13

Failure to undergo the means test or to fulfill any of the requirements for mandatory credit counseling will most likely lead the courts to dismiss your petition and at times, with prejudice as well. Thus, you have to be very prudent and discuss your bankruptcy plans thoroughly with a bankruptcy attorney in Arizona to make sure that you’re literally doing the right thing. Consult with your bankruptcy attorney today and put your financial burdens to rest for good.
