As you probably already know, a car battery is crucial to the proper performance of your vehicle. Even though a car battery is such a basic component, a little knowledge will help you understand why your vehicle will eventually require a car battery replacement, even with proper maintenance.
Simply stated, a car battery produces electrical energy by way of an electro-chemical reaction within the interior. That is, until it's depleted. For obvious safety reasons, the battery is contained within an acid-proof container. The two substances that produce the electro-chemical reaction are found in metal plates that physically hang in the acid solution. One set of plates acts as the positive terminal, and the other set acts as the negative terminal. This chemical reaction causes electricity to flow inside the battery.
