Twerk With Frank Winner Announced

Twerk Contest WinnerFrank Myers Auto Maxx, a Winston Salem used car dealership, is excited to announce that Kayla Burns is the winner of the “Twerk With Frank” contest. During the month of November, folks were invited to the dealership to take a test drive & show their best dance moves! Twerk, twist or electric buglaoo…it didn’t matter as long as the dance was clean. Each dance was captured on video & put on TwerkWithFrank.com (go there now to watch the videos). The video with the most votes on November 30, 2013 at 3:35pm was Kayla Burns and now she gets the opportunity to get up to $750 in prizes!

Car Shopping Can Be Fun

“We believe that a car dealership is supposed to be FUN,” said Tracy Myers, owner of Frank Myers Auto Maxx. “The Twerk With Frank contest was a perfect way for people to let loose a little.” When asked if he thought the contest was a little offensive for some people, Myers replied: “Not at all. While the contest name is Twerk with Frank, we demanded the participants keep it clean. Trust me, some got a little carried away with their dance but we stopped them and made them start again so it would be family friendly. This was all in good fun.”

View The Participants Dances

Even though the “Twerk With Frank” contest has officially ended, the videos are still online for people to enjoy at TwerkWithFrank.com. While you’re there, Tracy encourages you to spend some time watching the 1,3000+ videos the Winston-Salem used car dealership has posted since 2006. “I consider the Team fortunate that we were forward thinking enough in 2006 to join Youtube,” said Will Hall, Ambassador Of Smiles at Frank Myers Auto. “The owner, Tracy Myers, followed his gut feeling about Youtube being the future of video and he was right.”

Summer Time For Cars

We are getting to the hottest part of summer and there are a couple things that you need watch for with your vehicle.

You know to check our Air conditioning to make sure it is working properly. A couple other things that summer can have an effect on is your cooling system. Note if you see any coolant drips and check you coolant level regularly, especially in these hotter months your engine cooling system is very important.

Keep an eye on any warning lights on your dash and the temperature gauge if it appears to be getting into the red (hot) or if your car has a hot smell your vehicle is most likely overheating and you need to pull over and call someone. You don’t want to risk more costly repairs for your vehicle.

Check your tires year round to make sure they are in good condition, as well as checking your oil levels and making sure you keep up on getting your oil changed.

Hyundai Offers Better Assurance Connected Care Program with 2014 Genesis Sedan

2014 Genesis SedanWhile Hyundai has been keen on introducing better sedans in the market the Korean automaker has now decided to offer better safety features to the consumers. Hyundai’s award winning sedan has already received a positive response in the previous year and therefore Hyundai has come up with better service and ownership program for the 2014 model. Hyundai has managed to make an impression with the Blue Link telematics program that was added last year but the company has decided to extend that program for the consumers that buy the new 2014 Hyundai Genesis sedan.

With the new 2014 Genesis equipped with Blue Link, Hyundai is offering Hyundai’s Assurance Connected Care telematics services which remain standard for three years. This will offer a better ownership program to all Hyundai owners with proactive safety and car care services that they need to keep their car in good shape. Hyundai also mentioned that their telematics service program will help many consumers to make the right choice and get the right service when they need it. Hence, they are planning to extend the number of years that will also push their sales in the future and make 2014 Genesis sedan a value for money vehicle.

The new telematics service program include many other services like Automatic Collision Notification, Enhanced Roadside Assistance, Automatic Diagnostic Trouble Code Notification, Monthly Vehicle Health Report and in-vehicle Car Care maintenance scheduling. Hyundai has also come up with their new app for Blue Link telematic platform that will allow owners to subscribe and remotely access various optional Blue Link features and services. The app is available for download for free on Google Play and Apple iTunes and also on Blackberry App World.

On the other hand, the new 2014 Genesis sedan will have some new features that will offer better safety and driving experience to the users. It will have standard 18 inch alloy wheels on the 3.8 model. 2014 Genesis sedan 5.0 R-spec model will have the new heated steering wheel while the 3.8 model will have more efficient electro-hydraulic power steering to ensure better driving experience. Hyundai has also come up with new exterior color for the 2014 Genesis as they replace Platinum Metallic with Santiago Silver that offers better sporty appearance. In the interior, an optional 8 inch Driver Information System display is available for navigation and better multimedia experience combined with 64GB solid state drive to store more music, videos and images.

What To Do In Case Of An Accident in Wilmington

Screeching tires, crunching metal – it’s an accident! If you’ve ever been in a car accident in Wilmington, even a minor one, you know how upsetting it can be. It’s hard to think straight and know what to do.

Let’s review what you should do in case of an accident:

When an accident occurs, you should always stop. Leaving the scene of an accident in Wilmington is considered a crime – even if it’s not your fault. And hit and run penalties are fairly severe, possibly resulting in steep fines, loss of your North Carolina driver’s license or even jail time.

Your jurisdiction may require that you try to help someone who is injured by calling for help or performing first aid if you are able. Warn other Burgaw and Leland motorists by putting out flares, using your flashers or lifting your hood. Call Wilmington emergency services as soon as possible. Tell the operator if medical or fire help is needed.

Always file a Wilmington police report. It’s tempting to skip this if everything seems to be ok. But without a police report, the other guy can say whatever he wants about the accident later, and you’ll not have an objective report to help defend yourself. Discuss the accident only with the police. Emotions are strong after an accident and we naturally want to talk about it – don’t. Never admit fault or guilt to anyone including the police officer. Sometimes we may feel at fault, but in the eyes of the law, the other guy is responsible.

Truthfully give the officer the facts: such as “I was going thirty miles an hour” not “I wasn’t speeding”. Remember, anything you say to the officer or anyone else can be used against you.

Also get the officer’s name and ID number and ask where you can get a copy of the accident report.

Get the facts on the driver and owner of the other vehicle:

  • Name
  • Address
  • Phone number
  • Date of birth
  • Driver’s license number and expiration
  • Insurance information

Also take down a description of the other Wilmington vehicle, license plate and vehicle identification number. Most North Carolina auto insurance companies don’t record license plate numbers, so the VIN number is the best way to track the vehicle.

Ask witnesses, including passengers, to wait for the police. If they can’t wait, ask for contact information and request that they write a brief description of what they saw. If someone refuses to leave their name, write down their license plate number so the police can track them down later if necessary. Always call your insurance agent or your insurance company. Call or see a physician if you think you may have been injured. For vehicle repairs, call Atlantic Car Care at 9107941390

4 Reasons Why Robert’s Auto Repair Is Equal To Or Better Than A BMW/MINI Dealership

bmw logo mini logo

If you own a BMW or Mini, you may be inclined to have it serviced at a BMW or Mini dealership. For BMW owners, there is a nearby BMW dealership, but for Mini owners, the closest MINI dealership is over an hour’s drive up to Santa Clara.

Robert’s Auto Repair is an independent auto repair and auto body center that is equal to, if not better than the BMW and MINI dealerships, and here are 4 reasons why:

  1. Robert’s Auto Repair has recently hired two Master Technicians who specialize in BMW and MINI repair and maintenance. These Master Techs have many years of experience and there is no BMW or MINI repair issue they cannot handle.

  2. BMW has scope services, and you’re getting the same level of service at Robert’s Auto Repair as you would at the dealership (which is more than what you would ever get at a Jiffy Lube).

  3. Robert’s Auto Repair has access to stock BMW and MINI parts, as well as less pricey, aftermarket parts.

  4. If your BMW or MINI gets into an accident, Robert’s Auto Repair will restore your vehicle’s bodywork to factory specifications. No dealership can provide the auto body repair that we can; nor can the dealership give your vehicle a new paint job with environmentally-friendly Waterborne paint.

If your BMW or MINI automobiles require bodywork, a new paint job, mechanical repair, tires, or detail work, contact Robert’s Auto Repair today.

Contact us online to schedule an appointment, or call our main number at (831) 373-1535. Robert’s Auto Repair is conveniently located at 234 Ramona Avenue, Monterey, CA 93940. We look forward to serving you soon!

Backup Cameras Likely Mandated for 2014

The Department of Transportation has, in the works, a mandate to install backup cameras in all vehicles. Congress expects to have a final rule on the requirement by December 31st, 2012. The Department of Transportation has conducted a study which concluded that an estimated 228 people die and about 17,000 are injured annually in back over accidents and half of the deaths are of children. If this law does pass all passenger vehicles will have to have backup cameras installed by 2014. “Adoption of this proposal would significantly reduce fatalities and injuries caused by back over crashes involving children, persons with disabilities, the elderly and other pedestrians.” It is estimated to cost between $159-$203 to have the visual display screen installed and will be even cheaper for newer model vehicles. If this passes, economy cars will be hit the hardest.

Are you ready to have a backup camera installed on your vehicle?

Differential Service in Wilmington North Carolina – What You Need To Know

Scratching your head? Don’t worry, if you don’t know what a differential is – you will in a moment. That fact is that if you drive a car anywhere in Wilmington, North Carolina, you have a differential. Whether your vehicle is front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive, you have a differential. You might even have two or three.

Not surprisingly, a differential’s job is to compensate for differences. Specifically the differences in wheel speed when turning. For instance, imagine taking a corner near your Wilmington, North Carolina home. Your inside wheel has a shorter distance to travel than the outside wheel as you turn the corner. That means that your outside wheel has to turn faster to keep pace with the inside wheel.

The differential allows the wheels to turn at different speeds while still providing power to your vehicle. Without a differential, our tires would scrub and hop along the pavement during turns like the early cars.

Ever noticed the big bulge in the middle of the rear axle on trucks? That’s the differential. Rear-wheel drive vehicles have a differential in back. Most four-wheel drive trucks and SUVs will also have a similar differential on the front axle. Front-wheel drive vehicles’ differential is called a transaxle because it combines the differential and transmission in one unit. An all-wheel drive vehicle will have a differential or transfer case that adjusts for speed differences between the front and rear drive wheels.

It can seem a little complex to some Wilmington auto owners – but you can see that all of the engine’s power is routed through your differentials. They’re strong enough to handle the work, but- we’ve said it before – they need to be properly lubricated in order to stay strong. So from time to time, you need to have your differential serviced at Atlantic Car Care. The used fluid is drained and replaced with clean fluid. Some auto makers advise certain differentials to have special additives installed.

Get your differential serviced at our Wilmington automotive center:
Atlantic Car Care
21 New Bern Street
Wilmington, North Carolina 28403
9107941390

Recommendations for the time and mileage interval for servicing your differential, can vary greatly by vehicle. A front-wheel drive vehicle’s transaxle will need servicing more frequently than the rear differential on a pick-up truck, so check with your Wilmington, North Carolina Atlantic Car Care tech or your auto makers owner’s manual for recommendations.

How and where you drive in Wilmington will have an impact as well. If you drive on dirt roads or through streams around Wilmington, North Carolina, you’ll need to service the differential much sooner than if you always stay on highways.

Subaru, Mazda Rise, Ford Crashes, in Consumer Reports’ Automaker Report Card

Park a spot on the “Automaker Report Card”. Much like school report cards, automobile manufacturers get one based on consumer opinion. The list is being published in “Consumer Reports” magazine. Highlighting the latest automaker rankings in best and worst used cars and used car reliability for cars manufactured from 2006-2012. Where did your favorite automaker make it on this list?

(Overall score out of 100)

1.    Subaru (75)
2.    Mazda (74)
3.    Toyota (73)
4.    Honda (72)
5.    Nissan (67)
6.    Volvo (64)
7.    Hyundai (63)
8.    BMW (63)
9.    Volkswagen (62)
10.  Ford (60)
11.  Mercedes-Benz (58)
12.  General Motors (56)
13.  Chrysler (51)

Subaru in the first place spot, holding this spot for the first time with only six models out.  All of the most popular Japanese brand cars take the top 5 spots, with Mazda making significant improvement moving from seventh the last time the report has ran all the way to second place. Kudos Mazda!  Honda was in first place now falls to third place, mainly for the poor reviews on the redesigned Civic and Odyssey models. Unfortunately, General Motors and Chrysler remain on the bad side of the report, despite Chrysler’s reliability improvement to “average”.

Why A Trip Inspection Is A Good Idea

At Atlantic Car Care we get a lot of Wilmington car owners asking about car trip preparation. That’s a big deal. You could be driving through mountains and deserts in some pretty lonely areas outside of Wilmington so it’s important to know that the car is up to the task and won’t leave you stranded.

Smart Wilmington car owners plan ahead for a major road trip – there are a lot of things to get ready. Where should you start? You could start with the tires. Look them over for tread wear and check to see that they are properly inflated. Take a quick test drive around Wilmington to see if you can feel any vibrations: are the wheels in balance? Is the car tracking straight? Is the alignment ok? Come to Atlantic Car Care for a peace-of-mind trip inspection.

Atlantic Car Care
21 New Bern Street
Wilmington, North Carolina 28403
9107941390

The next thing is a full service oil change to make sure all of your fluids are topped off and you have fresh oil for the trip. And if your car has over 75,000 miles, you may consider putting in the high-mileage formulation to clean harmful sludge deposits in the engine. You may also need a new PCV valve and an engine air filter.

How about your transmission and brakes? Have you had your transmission and brakes inspected in the last six months?

How are your wiper blades? There’s nothing like not being able to get rid of the bug juice on a long road trip away from Wilmington.

Check your owners’ manual for any other recommended service and have Atlantic Car Care do the multi-point inspection before you head out.

Consider also having the coolant system serviced – you want to stay within the vehicle manufacturer’s recommendations. If you’re towing a trailer you’ll want to be keep in mind that you’ll be going a long way under severe conditions.

A lot of Wilmington folks overlook severe conditions like towing, or summer heat, or driving on dirt roads. Plan ahead for your next road trip – we want you to get there and back.

History Of Uncle Frank/Part 5 – The Astronaut

Frank Myers Nasa AstronautIn early 1961, Uncle Frank, always looking for the nicest, newest ride to offer his customers, managed to find a spot in the NASA astronaut program to see what all this space fuss was about. Few historians know that Uncle Frank was actually the first man in orbit, beating the Russians by a few weeks – after he climbed into the space capsule and “accidentally” hit the launch sequence.

The U.S. government hushed the whole thing up and Uncle Frank went back to his dealership. He knew he wouldn’t be selling any spacecraft in his lifetime because (a) used rockets weren’t very reliable and (b) the sticker price was, shall we say, astronomical.

About Uncle Frank

Uncle Frank has lived many lives and has many stories to share. He currently resides in Winston Salem, NC where he spends his days as the Frank Myers Auto Maxx Mascot.

Be sure to read History of Uncle Frank/Part 4 – Uncle Frank The Singing Star and check back for future editions later.

* Uncle Frank Sez: “All content in The History Of Uncle Frank is a mixture of parody, poor satire, and/or (very) lame humor. It is for entertainment purposes only.”
