Lexington Gets Spate of Auto Glass Vandalisms

Lexington is the latest place to be struck by the auto glass vandals.  According to police, no fewer than a dozen cars had their auto glass vandalized last week, all along a single drive.  The cars on Summerhill Drive suffered from broken windows and not windshields, further indicating the purely mischief-making nature of the prank.  People are suspecting that it is a single group that is responsible for the vandalism, considering that the incidents have all the indications of a series of vandalism caused by pranksters doing a malicious drive-by with a tool such as a pellet gun or a BB gun, two of the most favored instruments for vandals of car windows.

The auto glass vandalism are not new to this area, it seems.  At least one of the victims or owners of the vandalized cars, Nell Demaree, alleged that she had suffered a like vandalism before, after parking her car in the same location.  Residents of the area are troubled, fearing that the vandals shall continue to make the rounds of the location and make even more trouble for car owners.

Similar incidents have been breaking out all over the country and even abroad, although the vast majority of the auto glass break-ins this season have been ones suspected to be motivated by an intent to burgle.  The perpetrators do not always make off with something, of course, as some seem less discerning than others, but they do manage to steal something in most cases.  The usual items targeted are devices that are typically left in cars, such as GPS devices, sat nav units, and even mobile handsets forgotten by the owner in the seat of the car.  Other typical items that such car burglars look for would be packages from the mall, shopping bags, handbags, laptop bags, and similar items that may be left in any of the seats of the vehicle.  The usual recommendation in such cases is for car owners to simply take care not to leave anything tempting in their cars, and thus avoid presenting too much temptation to thieves.

The Lexington incidents, though, have not had any burglaries associated with them, which indicates pure vandalism at work.  This does not make it any less grave, of course: the owners of the cars still end up losing something, even if insurance does pay for the auto glass repair in most cases.  Still, the trouble of having to bring the car to the shop and wait for the broken window to be replaced is something to be considered.  Meanwhile, police are looking for clues and allege that although the incidents must have happened at any time from 1 to 5 in the morning, there should be some witnesses still.  Police urge any people with useful information to come forward and tell their story.

Hurricane Sandy Help From NC Man

Will Hall, commonly known as Ambassador Of Smiles for Frank Myers Auto Maxx in Winston Salem, saw Kevin Blanchard on his local tv news. Kevin was talking about how he wanted to reach out to the people affected by Hurricane Sandy and assist them. The story moved Will so much that he decided to he had to find Kevin, or as Will jokingly put it, “hunt him down.”

Will didn’t have to look far to find Kevin. As luck would have it, Kevin’s office at Labor Finders Of Winston Salem was right around the corner from the dealership. Will got Kevin on the phone and, after a brief conversation, told him that the dealership wanted to assist in getting the message out to other people in the surrounding Triad communities. 

The time was arranged for a brief interview to be recorded at Kevin’s office at Labor Finders of Winston Salem. The video was going to used to help Will promote the Hurricane Sandy Relief Project. The brief  interview is above and everyone is encouraged to watch it.

If you aren’t privy on changing your oil regularly, you should start doing so.  By neglecting regular oil changes, you’re risking the failure of your camshaft, which could end up being much more costly than a simple change of oil.  Very similar to the cylinder issue aforementioned, replacing a camshaft is quite expensive because of the work involved to change it out.  They typically cost more than three thousand dollars because of the labor.

Unlike some of the others, this next repair is expensive, but it isn’t because of the labor; it’s because of the part.  Most catalytic converters are created for the long term, meaning they should stay relatively workable for somewhere between ten and twenty years, but if your car is approaching this age or you’re the type of person who loves to rev your engine, you could see it going quite soon.

Although the labor is fairly easy and doesn’t take much time, buying a new converter is quite expensive simply because of all the different materials that they’re made of.  You could see more than two thousand dollars down just to pay for a replacement converter.

Cars can get pretty expensive if you’ve recently gotten into an accident or you haven’t gotten it looked at in quite a while, so make sure you take care of your vehicle and keep an eye out for any red flags.  The sooner you catch faults, the sooner you’ll be able to have them fixed and this will mean much lower costs.

The benefits are more than just cosmetic, however. Painting your car will increase its value as well as prevent oxidation and rust that can cause more serious damage. Variables That Affect The Color

At first glance, it seems like matching the color of paint on an automobile would be fairly simple. 1. Pigment: paint pigment comes in powder form. There are hundreds of different pigment combinations that can be used to make similar colors. There can be as many as seven different combinations of pigments for the exact same make and model of car; in order to keep the database smaller, however, auto manufacturers usually limit the color combinations they enter to just two or three.
2. 2.       Location: Automobile manufacturers typically have more than one plant that manufactures automobiles and more than one supplier for paint colors. The corporate office supplies a paint sample to the each and they produce a paint formula based on the sample. The paint, however, can have a color variance of plus or minus 5 percent. This means that a car manufactured in the Midwest may contain 5 percent more blue pigment while a car manufactured on the East Coast may have a slightly greener hue. Even though a database says the two cars should be the exact same color they can actually be quite different.
3. 3.       Application techniques: even if two cars are painted with precisely the same paint formula, the application techniques used by the manufacturer can also affect the color. Temperature, humidity, time between coats and the speed of the spray gun can all cause variations in the color.
4. 4.       Exposure to elements: Prolonged exposure to ultra violet rays from the sun will also cause colors to change by absorbing some of the pigment. Rust and oxidation can also cause color variations.
5. 5.       Type of material: paint adheres to parts made from different materials differently. For this reason plastic such as the bumper, mirrors and door handles will have a subtle variation in shade from the metal parts of a car if they are painted with the exact same formula.

As you can see, there are a lot of factors that need to be considered in order to get an accurate color match. If you simply use a number out of a paint database the area you paint will look bright, shiny and new but the rest of the car will look dull and faded.
